Paraiba Tourmaline

The paraiba tourmaline is one of the most expensive varieties form the tourmaline family and has gained in value in recent years due to its rarity.

To put their rarity into perspective, there is only one Paraiba tourmaline mined for every 10,000 diamonds, and a good quality Paraiba from Brazil weighing over three carats is virtually unheard of. So rare are authentic Brazilian Paraiba tourmalines that it is not unusual for them to achieve five figures per carat.

Paraiba Tourmaline is truly unique in the gemstone world aside from their vivid neon colors that seems to glow even with weak lighting, this rarest of the tourmaline gem also contains a considerable amount of copper in its composition, which means the copper element is almost half the weight in every gemstone of some samples and some even have gold! Yet this metal doesn’t show up as metallic inclusions but as admixture that blends beautifully in its chemical make up and can only be distinguished by some high tech gemstone lab equipment.
